BNT004: intranasal nematode vaccine for livestock
Promising lead vaccine intended to generate a broad immune response against the infection of nematode parasites in cattle

BNT004 is an intranasal formulation based on inclusion bodies of a recombinant protein of the gene pph-1 (serine/threonineproteinphosphatase; EMBLAM041130) of Angiostrongylus costaricensis and is intended to generate a broad immune response against the infection of nematode parasites in cattle.
BNT004 has been tested in two independent assays with lambs (each 4 groups of 7x 3-months lambs/ immunization: 3 doses x 1 mg every 15 days; intranasal route/ challenge oral -bucoesophagic catheter- administration of 10000 larvae of Haemonchus contortus 40%, Teladosagia circumcincta 20%, and Trichostrongylus columbriformis 40%, 15 days post-immunization). It conferred outstanding protection in vaccinated animals (75%, 60% and 96% versus H. c., T. c., and T. c. respectively). Fewer and less fertile eggs were found in those vaccinated animals which after 5 months post-experiment we weighted the same as non-infected control animals.

Annual losses valued at 7.1 billion USD.Potential market value of 2 billion USD.First prophylactic treatment.Patent Application active in USA, Europe, AU, NZ and Brasil until 2028.Two lamb trials completed
