EBMT strengthens its connection with the biomedical ecosystem from the University of Barcelona Science Park

The European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) has relocated its Barcelona office to the University of Barcelona Science Park (PCB-UB). Together with its offices in Leiden and Paris, the team serves the international EBMT community from a strategic location connected to one of Europe’s leading scientific and biomedical hubs.
Founded in 1974, EBMT is a non-profit scientific society that facilitates the exchange of knowledge among researchers and healthcare professionals specialising in haematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapies, while promoting the development of collaborative studies in this field.
Over more than five decades, it has established itself as Europe’s leading society in a constantly evolving discipline, with a mission to advance scientific excellence, improve research outcomes, and disseminate the knowledge generated among all stakeholders, including patients and their families.
The move to PCB-UB places EBMT’s office within an environment fully aligned with its mission and activities. Barcelona has become one of Europe’s leading life sciences and healthcare hubs, thanks to the presence of renowned hospitals, world-class research centres, and a growing biotechnology sector. This ecosystem fosters collaboration with scientific and healthcare institutions and strengthens EBMT’s connection with the biomedical community.
Guillermo Puigventós, EBMT’s Director of Community Relations, Marketing and Communications, highlights the strategic importance of the new location: “EBMT exists to transform shared knowledge, data, and collaboration among professionals and centres into better outcomes for patients. EBMT promotes clinical and observational research, professional education, standardisation, continuous quality improvement, and certification in the field of transplantation and cellular therapies.
One of its most valuable assets is the EBMT Registry, which collects clinical data on haematopoietic cell transplants and cellular therapies performed at centres across Europe and other regions of the world. This information is essential for observational research, the analysis of long-term outcomes, and the continuous improvement of quality of care.
