Job Summary:

We are actively searching for a highly skilled and motivated professional to join our team in the role of Financial Controller. This position will be based in Valladolid and will entail directing and overseeing the company's accounting, budgeting, and cash flow processes. Responsibilities include the preparation of financial statements, summaries and forecasts to facilitate future business growth. This position will report directly to the company's CFO.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

The role will be responsible for, among other duties:

  • Financial Planning and Analysis: develop and lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Financial Reporting: oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements with the analysis of its deviations in compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Cash Flow Management: monitor and manage cash flow to ensure liquidity for daily operations.
  • Audit Compliance: coordinate and manage internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with auditing standards and addressing any audit findings.
  • Accounting. support and supervision of the company's accounting, including project-based analytical accounting.
  • Economic justifications: participation in the coordination and management of company projects from a financial perspective. This includes preparing economic justifications, analyzing deviations, proposing mitigations, and creating the associated documentation.
  • Human Resources: supervise the company's Human Resources area in collaboration with the consulting firm, including payroll, benefits administration, and compliance with labor-related financial obligations. Responsible for managing the onboarding and departures of company personnel.
  • Tax Compliance: ensuring adherence to all relevant tax laws and regulations, including the timely filing of accurate tax returns.
  • Cost Control: implement strategies to monitor and control project costs, identifying variances and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Technology Integration: leverage financial technology and systems to streamline processes, enhance reporting accuracy, and facilitate data-driven decision-making.
  • Continuous Improvement: stay abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices, and proactively recommend improvements to financial processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. MBA or CPA designation is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience of more than 3 years’ experience filling similar positions, with a hands-on approach to work and a ‘can do’ attitude. Experience in the biotechnology industry is an advantage.
  • Experience in fundraising both from private and government institutions together with knowledge of working with different fiscal government agencies.
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations, reporting standards, and industry-specific financial practices.
  • High energy level and a sense of urgency coupled with strong management and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and a high focus on fostering teamwork are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
