What is a patent attorney?
Patent attorneys are specialist legal advisers who assist their clients in protecting their inventions by means of patents, trademarks, designs, and other types of intellectual property (IP). Patent attorneys also advise their clients about enforcement of IP against competitors, evaluation of risk of infringing competitor IP, and many other IP-related aspects of industry.
How do I become a patent attorney?
The only route to becoming a patent attorney is by obtaining a university-level scientific or technical degree (ideally, along with some professional experience and/or doctoral studies), and by taking a position as a trainee to be educated by an already- qualified patent attorney.
During the training period at HOFFMANN EITLE, each trainee will be assigned to an experienced patent attorney as a supervisor and mentor. In addition to dedicated training courses, you will learn on-the-job by working on cases together with your supervisor and/or with other attorneys. Step by step, you will learn the tricks of the trade enabling you to eventually work independently as a patent attorney.
Who are we?
