About Batea Oncology

Batea Oncology is a Spanish biotechnology startup developing innovative solutions for the treatment of aggressive cancers with low survival. Our first asset is GlioHook, a class III medical device for the treatment of glioblastoma (GB) patients, developed in collaboration with the University Clinical Hospital of Santiago de Compostela. We have preclinical evidence in relevant animal models showing a positive effect of GlioHook on survival when combined with radiotherapy, the standard of care for GB patients. We plan to enter clinical phases in 2026 and are now expanding our team to face the next development phases and support current and new research lines.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist – Team Lead to join our scientific team focused on developing and translating to patients new therapeutic strategies based on biophysical strategies in low survival cancers, like glioblastoma.

The successful candidate will combine hands-on experimental work with team coordination responsibilities, directly reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), contributing to the scientific and operational success of the group and helping shape ongoing and future research directions of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor cell behavior through a range of techniques such as flow cytometry, advanced microscopy, RNA-Seq, proteomics, and other state-of-the-art analytical methods.
  • Conduct in vivo experiments, including orthotopic glioma models in mice and rats, as well as additional in vivo models as needed.
  • Coordinate and support the scientific team, ensuring smooth workflow, clear communication, and high research standards while reporting directly to the CSO.

  • A PhD in biology, biomedicine, biotechnology, bioengeering, neuroscience, or a related field.
  • Experience with in vivo experimentation (mice or rats), ideally in oncology or neuroscience models. Having an active animal experimentation license is a must.
  • Experience with cell culture, primary cell culture/organoids is an asset
  • Familiarity with techniques such as flow cytometry, advanced microscopy, RNA-Seq, and/or proteomics.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced, dynamic research environment.
  • Ability  to  coordinate  team  members,  fostering  a  collaborative  and  productive environment.
