TECNALIA works to guarantee safety, improve quality and optimize process control in the agri-food industry. Among the technological developments for the sector, the application of biotechnology and sensor technology for this field stands out.

"Our team develops cutting-edge sensor techniques that allow rapid, in situ analysis of both the source materials and the food produced, with greater time and cost efficiency compared to traditional methods that require centralized laboratories," explains Dr. Bergoi Ibarlucea, Health project manager at TECNALIA and an expert in biosensors.

In this field, non-invasive and non-destructive methods are used, such as Raman spectroscopy, with the ability to determine chemical composition or ultrasound signals to monitor the passage of fluids and the changes produced in them during transformation processes.

"In addition, we develop miniaturized devices (lab-on-a-chip) for the analysis of samples with results in a few minutes, offering portability and connectivity in IoT in the search for biomolecules or specific ions or in the diagnosis of infectious agents," says the expert.
