The UAM-PEACHES Chair explores the potential of cell secretomes as an alternative to cell-based advanced therapies
The Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz will host the V academic session of the Chair on 17 November.
Research in regenerative medicine is exploring new therapeutic strategies that harness the reparative capacity of cells without administering the cells themselves to patients. In this context, cell secretomes represent a promising area of research for the development of biological therapies and will be the focus of the V session organised by the UAM-PEACHES Chair, which will take place on 17 November 2026, at 9:30 a.m., at the Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz in Madrid.
The session will explore this emerging therapeutic approach in biomedical research, which is based on the bioactive factors and molecules secreted by cells that can mediate biological processes involved in tissue repair and regeneration.
Unlike therapeutic strategies based on administering cells, the study of their secretomes opens up new avenues for investigating the biological effects of cell-free products and their potential therapeutic applications. This approach offers opportunities for the development of new biological products, while further research is needed to improve our understanding of their mechanisms of action, characterisation, manufacturing, and preclinical and clinical evaluation. Compared with current cell therapies, these approaches offer several advantages, including a lower risk of immune rejection, reduced costs and greater production capacity at industrial scale. They can also simplify storage and transport processes.
The programme will feature a broad panel of experts from academia, research centres, hospitals and biotechnology companies, alongside specialists in pharmaceutical development and regulatory affairs. Participants will examine key issues involved in translating scientific advances into new medicines, from secretome characterisation and manufacturing to preclinical and clinical evaluation. Contributions from experts at the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) will also bring a regulatory perspective, which is essential to advancing the development and future application of secretome-based biological treatments.
Peaches Biotech will present the latest developments in its targeted secretome platform
As co-organiser of the event alongside the Autonomous University of Madrid, Peaches Biotech will present progress in its targeted secretome technology platform and its potential therapeutic applications across different areas. The medicines in development to be discussed include PRS CK STORM, targeting respiratory conditions and currently in Phase I–II clinical development; PRS Neuropain, aimed at treating neuropathic pain; and new candidates designed to promote the regeneration of muscle, tendon and bone injuries. These programmes illustrate the potential of this technology to develop biological products targeting different pathological mechanisms and unmet medical needs.
Driving research and knowledge transfer
The UAM-PEACHES Chair is affiliated with the Department of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and is led by Professors Damián García Olmo and Mariano García Arranz. Its mission is to promote education, scientific research and knowledge dissemination in innovative therapies, including next-generation biological products based on cell-free approaches.
The Chair also promotes specialised training and knowledge exchange among researchers, healthcare professionals and biotechnology companies, fostering collaboration between academia and the healthcare and life sciences sector to advance the development of therapeutic alternatives based on cell secretomes.
