#NewAseBioMember | “AseBio is a key platform for connecting with other biotech players in Spain”
Meet our new member CIMAB. We spoke with Agustín García-Peiró, CEO and Founder.
AseBio. What does your company's work bring to the table and what is its strength?
Agustín García-Peiró. CIMAB specializes in genetic diagnostics of male infertility, an area often underrepresented in reproductive medicine. Our strength lies in developing proprietary methodologies such as the CometFertility test, which enables accurate and reproducible assessment of sperm DNA fragmentation. We also provide highly personalized clinical support, combining cutting-edge science with direct reproductive guidance for patients
AseBio. What is AseBio for you?
Agustín García-Peiró. AseBio is a key platform for connecting with other biotech players in Spain and participating in strategic, regulatory and scientific discussions that shape the sector. For companies like ours, working in in vitro diagnostics, it is a vital point of interaction with the ecosystem.
AseBio. When did you first hear about AseBio?
Agustín García-Peiró. Several years ago, during technology transfer programs and meetings focused on personalized medicine. Since then, we’ve followed their work closely.
AseBio. What do you expect from being part of an association like AseBio?
Agustín García-Peiró. We aim to raise awareness of reproductive biotechnology, collaborate in regulatory and technical forums, and contribute our experience in diagnostic innovation. We also seek synergies with like-minded companies and advocate for the integration of emerging technologies into healthcare systems.
AseBio. What is the biggest challenge facing the biotech sector or your company?
Agustín García-Peiró. A key challenge is ensuring fair market access for innovations developed by research-based companies. Smaller players need regulatory frameworks like IVDR to recognize the unique value of proximity-based innovation, as opposed to generalized industrial kits. In our case, maintaining diagnostic quality under strict standards like ISO 15189 is also a constant challenge.
