Almirall and Certest Biotec enter strategic research collaboration and licensing agreement

Almirall and Certest Biotec, S.L., through its pharmaceutical division, Certest Pharma, have entered into a strategic research collaboration and licensing agreement to jointly discover and clinically develop novel treatments for rare dermatologic diseases and recurrent cutaneous conditions.

The collaboration brings together Certest’s integrated mRNA and Lipid Nanoparticle Platform with Almirall’s expertise in medical dermatology research and clinical development.

Karl Ziegelbauer, Chief Scientific Officer at Almirall, highlighted that the collaboration is aligned with Almirall’s innovation strategy and supports the company’s commitment to advancing a differentiated pipeline and developing novel therapies in medical dermatology that address unmet patient needs.

For Certest, the agreement marks an important milestone and further validates the strength of its integrated mRNA and lipid nanoparticle platform. Nelson Fernandes, CEO of Certest, emphasized that partnering with Almirall will allow Certest to apply its technology to indications with significant unmet medical needs while reinforcing its commitment to enabling the next generation of RNA-based medicines.

By combining Certest’s RNA technology platform with Almirall’s capabilities in medical dermatology research and clinical development, the two companies will work together on the discovery and clinical development of new therapeutic approaches for rare dermatologic diseases and recurrent cutaneous conditions.

The collaboration was announced on 24 July 2026 in Barcelona and San Mateo de Gállego (Zaragoza), Spain.
