Biobide Expands Ecotoxicology Portfolio to a Full-Spectrum, GLP-Certified Testing Platform Across All Trophic Levels

Biobide has grown its ecotoxicology service line into a more comprehensive GLP-certified testing platforms — now spanning terrestrial, sediment, avian, pollinator, endocrine and environmental fate models — giving sponsors a single partner for complete environmental testing solutions.

Biobide, the San Sebastián-headquartered CRO with a US office in Cambridge, MA and part of BIAT Group (BME Growth: BST), has expanded its ecotoxicology offering into a full-spectrum battery covering every level of the ecosystem.

The current portfolio adds terrestrial models (earthworms, collembola, enchytraeids, predatory mites, terrestrial plants and soil microorganisms), pollinator and non-target arthropod assays (honeybee adult, larval and chronic toxicity; bumblebee acute tests; IOBC/WPRS and EPPO 170 protocols), sediment and benthic invertebrates, aquatic macrophytes, fish endocrine and early-life-stage assays, amphibian metamorphosis models, and avian reproduction and dietary toxicity tests. It is complemented by environmental fate and behaviour modules (sorption, hydrolysis, photolysis, biodegradation, bioaccumulation), a full genotoxicity battery (Ames, micronucleus, comet assay), and Level 3 endocrine disruption screening tools — EASZY (OECD TG 250) and ZETA — built on transgenic zebrafish reporter lines.

The expansion reflects 20+ years of assay development and 450+ substances tested annually, backed by active regulatory collaboration with EPA, FDA, NIH/NIEHS and OECD, and more than 20 peer-reviewed publications supporting assay validity and cross-lab reproducibility.

For sponsors facing increasingly demanding ERA requirements under REACH, PPP and biocide regulations, Biobide now offers a one-stop platform — from core screening to higher-tier regulatory refinement studies —.
