After a big growth and consolidation in the Spanish biopharmaceutical sector, Klinea is ready for the next step: opening a new office in the old continent. Klinea just landed in Denmark, ready to continue expanding its business by offering engineering services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

This new endeavour is not a matter of chance. Klinea has had an organic growth since its creation back in 2015. This growth went into a steep curve in the last two years, where the team has almost doubled. Klinea has already been working with European clients outside the Spanish borders for a while now. So, following its natural path, while seeking for new challenges, the strategy for 2023 and the upcoming years has been set to expand its presence in Europe.

Choosing Denmark was not an easy decision. There were several other strong candidates: Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, among others. However, the vast biotech ecosystem in the Danish region was a big driver of the final decision. Combined with other factors, as the lack of engineering companies in the country and the amount of small- to mid- size biotech companies in need of this kind of service in Scandinavia.

Klinea can satisfy this demand thanks to the 20+ years of experience of its team. Its core capabilities include process and bioprocess engineering, pharma 4.0 and a strong focus on sustainability. These services span from feasibility studies to construction management, including all the design phases, procurement and quality strategy.

This movement aims to diversify Klinea´s client portfolio, reducing its current reliance on the Spanish market. Needless to say, Klinea will keep expanding and working with its clients in other European countries (Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, etc.) and overseas (Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica, Vietnam, etc.). This is just a first move. Opening an office in Mexico is also a part of the future plans. And the long-term goal is to offer its services all over the world. Nevertheless, Pau Santamans – founder and CEO of the company – still has very clear ideas on where to put the focus: “the Danish office is one of our priorities now”. He also sees this as “an opportunity to generate value, keep learning and getting the most out of it”. He wants to respect and embrace the process that comes with this new and exciting challenge.

Marc Ramoneda – responsible for business development in Europe – is not expecting a smooth ride, as entering a new market with a different working culture is never easy. The plan is to hire and partner with local experts with a proven track of records in the Danish pharmaceutical market. This will help establish the company and get the first projects and clients. The objectives for the mid-term are clear for Klinea, but they are also ready to adapt and take actions as the future unwraps.
