MedTech Barcelona at the Spain–United States Business Meeting in Boston by ICEX
MedTech Barcelona attended the Spain–United States Business Meeting in Boston on April 13–14, 2026, strengthening biotech connections between Spain and the United States.
MedTech Barcelona took part in the Spain–United States Business Meeting in Boston, held on April 13 and 14. Organized by ICEX, the event brought together 40 Spanish companies and nearly 200 U.S. companies to promote bilateral cooperation in health sciences and technology, with a particularly strong focus on biotechnology, in one of the world’s leading biomedical innovation hubs. The program combined thematic panels, networking activities, and B2B meetings designed to open new paths for collaboration between both ecosystems.
Representing MedTech Barcelona, Teresa Sardon, Business Director, attended the meeting as part of the company’s ongoing internationalization efforts. The event offered a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the Boston biotech ecosystem, exchange perspectives with companies and institutions from both countries, and continue building relationships in a market that plays a central role in global life sciences and innovation.
The opening session reflected the institutional relevance of the event. It was inaugurated virtually by Spain’s First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Trade, and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, and also featured Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, and ICEX CEO Elisa Carbonell.
Beyond the agenda itself, the meeting also felt especially timely. In a context marked by geopolitical uncertainty, changing market conditions, and growing competition for talent, capital, and innovation, events like this help reinforce something essential: the value of maintaining strong transatlantic ties. Continuing to nurture dialogue, trusted networks, and long-term collaboration between Spain and the United States is increasingly important for companies operating in highly specialized sectors such as biotech and health sciences.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business through ICEX, in collaboration with the Economic and Commercial Offices of Spain in New York and Chicago. It was supported locally by Richi Foundation, M&T Bank, SMCU, and the City of Boston, whose contribution helped create a setting that encouraged meaningful exchange and practical business connections.
For MedTech Barcelona, participation in this event also aligned with a broader effort to strengthen its position within the U.S. life sciences landscape. With more than 20 years of experience in cell culture, the company develops ready-to-use cell-based in vitro solutions for drug discovery, ADME-Tox, and transporter research, while also enabling room-temperature shipment of cell systems through its proprietary Shipping Medium technology.
What Boston ultimately offered was not only visibility, but perspective. The conversations held during the event reinforced the importance of staying close to leading innovation ecosystems, listening carefully to market needs, and identifying where MedTech Barcelona’s expertise can contribute through practical scientific solutions and long-term collaborations. The experience also confirmed strong interest in continuing to grow within the American biotech industry in a thoughtful and sustainable way.
