AseBio welcomed its 300th member this Tuesday: the Spanish Association Against Cancer Scientific Foundation (AECC FC). This partnership reflects both organisations’ commitment to protecting and improving the lives of people with cancer through biotechnology research and innovation.

Nearly 70% of drugs being developed around the world are biotechnology medicines. So, biotechnology is a key tool in the fight against cancer, making it possible to develop increasingly personalised and effective treatments. “The biotechnology sector’s commitment to the fight against cancer is reflected in the over 320 lines of research our members are currently working on,” notes AseBio Chairwoman Ana Polanco.

“Over a hundred organisations in the association are working to develop innovations in oncology. Currently, 60% of all drugs being developed by AseBio members seek to treat cancer. The Association joining AseBio shows both organisations’ commitment to research and innovation in oncology,” highlighted Polanco.

In the words of the Ramón Reyes, president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer and its Scientific Foundation, “Our Association supports cancer research because our goal is to improve patients’ quality of life and achieve a cancer survival rate of 70% by 2030.”

“To do this, we have to promote research and innovation in oncology and one good way to do this is by joining AseBio, which will allow us to work on joint projects with research centres, biotechnology companies and basic research laboratories. This way, we will be consolidating our efforts to make sure the results of this innovation reaches cancer patients as quickly as possible and to help achieve our survival goal,” concluded Reyes.

In this regard, by joining the network of companies, research centres, universities and hospitals that make up AseBio, the Association will further drive cancer research in our country.
