Xenopat launches Co-Clinical Trial Services, a new service to generate PDX models from biopsies of patients enrolled in clinical trials

The company expands its preclinical offering with a service that enables patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models to be generated from biopsies collected during clinical trials, providing complementary experimental evidence to support the development of new oncology treatments.

Xenopat, a contract research organisation (CRO) based at the Barcelona Science Park, launches Co-Clinical Trial Services, aimed at pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and research groups involved in oncology clinical trials. The company has 12 years of experience providing specialised preclinical oncology services.

Oncology clinical trials require substantial investment and generate biological samples of considerable scientific value. Generating PDX models from biopsies obtained from trial participants can expand the research opportunities associated with a trial and provide additional experimental data.

The new service covers the generation of these models and the conduct of preclinical studies coordinated with clinical research. Each project is tailored to the scientific objectives and specific requirements of the client and the clinical trial.

Xenopat’s OrthoXenoBank® comprises more than 450 orthotopic PDX models, supported by extensive expertise in surgical techniques for implanting tumours into the organ of origin. This expertise enables novel treatments to be evaluated in models established at anatomically relevant sites.

Depending on the project’s objectives, the resulting models can be used to investigate treatment responses or explore alternative therapeutic strategies, including new drug combinations and dosing regimens, particularly when limited efficacy is observed in the clinical trial.

With this launch, Xenopat helps clients maximise the research value of samples collected during clinical trials and generate preclinical evidence to inform future decisions in oncology drug development.
