• The new edition of the international flagship event in the biotech sector will take place in Barcelona from September 26 to 28, in collaboration with Biocat, the Government of Catalonia, and the Barcelona City Council.
• The BIOSPAIN 2023 program consists of more than 60 sessions that will analyze areas such as health, planetary sustainability, Europe's strategic autonomy, and global threats like antibiotic resistance, among other topics.
• Within the framework of BIOSPAIN 2023, the "AseBio 2023 Journalism Awards" will be held. These awards highlight the excellent scientific journalism produced in Spain and will recognize journalists who give voice to the work of the Spanish biotechnology sector.

• The European project ShapingBio, created with the aim of better understanding and gaining knowledge of the innovation ecosystem in the European bioeconomy sector, will be present at BIOSPAIN.
• Under the title "Shaping Bioeconomy in Europe," the session offered by ShapingBio at BIOSPAIN 2023 will delve into the challenges and opportunities that require special attention and consideration for promoting the bioeconomy in Europe.

• During the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Spain will lead the dialogue on these critical policies for European patients, food safety, and the green transition.
• "We need to find a path that ensures access for all patients to medications and reduces waiting times," says Ana Polanco, President of AseBio.
• "Europe needs to define a predictable regulatory framework for new genome editing techniques. Only then can we harness our scientific, human, infrastructure, and raw material strengths to build a competitive ecosystem in industrial biotechnology," explains Ion Arocena, CEO of AseBio.

• AseBio gave an advance look at these figures at an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of BIOSPAIN, two decades over which a total of €1.2 billion has been invested in the biotechnology sector

•  The presentation took place at the Meta Space in Madrid with Secretary General for Innovation Teresa Riesgo and AseBio Chairwoman Ana Polanco
• The analysis highlights that 60% of all people who work at companies in the sector are women and that 98% of them have been to university.
•  At 37% of the companies, more than 50% of leadership positions are held by women, according to the document.

• The forum is held in Malaga with over 3,000 professionals from the science and innovation sector. AseBio is displaying innovative bioproducts from over a dozen member companies that are tackling the green transition, as well as hosting a panel discussion to highlight the work being done in the biotechnology industry to drive cutting-edge healthcare and reinforce the National Health System 

• For International Day of Women and Girls in Science, 14 women from 12 companies will host young female students to encourage them to go into science and innovation and show them the different professional careers available in the biotech industry

• BIOSPAIN 2023 expects to bring together over 1,500 professionals from 30 countries around the world in Barcelona, opening up business opportunities with more than 2,000 one-to-one meetings and 50 investors from Spain and abroad.
• Barcelona, the leader in the biotechnology and life sciences sector in Spain, will host this edition from 26 to 28 September, which is the 20th anniversary of the event.
• During the presentation, AseBio, Biocat, the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council highlighted the urgent need for a greater commitment to the science and innovation generated by biotechnology companies as a way to tackle the challenges of the future, such as antimicrobial resistance, the ageing population and climate change.
