ShapingBio
The overall objective of ShapingBio was to support and accelerate innovation in the bioeconomy and the deployment of new knowledge across the European Union and its Member States.
ShapingBio aimed to provide evidence-based insights and concrete recommendations for better alignment of policies and stakeholder actions in order to unlock the cross-sectoral potential of the bioeconomy and reduce fragmentation between bio-based sectors, food systems, and related policies across regions, domains, and governance levels. These actions contribute significantly to the Bioeconomy Strategy and Action Plan, the Farm to Fork Strategy, the policy priorities of the European Green Deal, and the EU’s climate commitments for 2030 and 2050.
ShapingBio contributed to the development of the Bioeconomy Strategy by improving policymakers’ understanding of the innovation ecosystem—including its strengths and weaknesses—comprising bio-based sectors and food systems. The project provided recommendations on measures and best practices to strengthen this innovation ecosystem, overcome existing barriers, and enhance its efficiency, sustainability, and resilience. In doing so, it increased its impact in support of the objectives set out in the Farm to Fork Strategy, the European Green Deal policy priorities, and the EU’s climate targets for 2030 and 2050.
ShapingBio was specifically designed not only to develop and disseminate recommendations through a co-creative, multi-stakeholder approach, but also to encourage stakeholders to actively reflect on, test, and implement the recommended measures and actions in practice, integrating them into their activities to ensure that the intended impacts are achieved.
