AseBio. What does your company's work bring to the table and what is its strength?

Vicente de Juan. At INCLIVA, throughout our history and as part of our mission to help improve people’s health and quality of life, we have advanced our understanding of many diseases, leading to more accurate diagnoses, more personalised treatments and higher survival rates. In the final phase of the research process that begins in the laboratory, we identify, promote and transfer the knowledge that enables the development of new products, technologies or solutions to improve health. In this regard, we act as a bridge between research and the business sector, supporting researchers throughout the process of commercialisation, protection of results and technology transfer.

Furthermore, we foster collaboration between research groups, companies, hospitals and other organisations, driving forward collaborative projects that accelerate innovation and maximise the impact of research. We also encourage the creation and consolidation of technology-based companies (spin-offs), supporting entrepreneurial teams so that technologies developed within the scientific community can be transformed into business ventures capable of generating economic and social value.

Our main strength lies precisely in this ability to connect science, business and innovation. We combine biomedical research of the highest calibre with a team specialising in innovation and technology transfer, which works to transform knowledge into real opportunities for collaboration, technological development and impact on society.

AseBio. What is AseBio for you?

Vicente de Juan. For us, AseBio is the main hub of the Spanish biotechnology ecosystem. It is an association that brings together companies, investors, research centres and other innovation stakeholders, fostering collaboration and raising the profile of a sector that is strategic for our country.

Furthermore, we particularly value its ability to represent the sector’s interests and promote an environment that facilitates innovation and the transfer of knowledge.

AseBio. When did you first hear about AseBio?

Vicente de Juan. We have been familiar with AseBio for many years, as it is a key reference point for any organisation working in biotechnology and health innovation. We have followed many of its initiatives, reports and activities, and have met numerous members at industry events and forums. Joining as members now is a natural step in our strategy to collaborate with the biotechnology ecosystem.

AseBio. What do you expect from being part of an association like AseBio?

Vicente de Juan. We look forward to being part of a network that will enable us to create new opportunities for collaboration with companies and other stakeholders in the biotechnology ecosystem. We believe that innovation arises when complementary capabilities are brought together, and we therefore wish to play an active role in promoting collaborative projects that accelerate the transfer of knowledge and bring new solutions to market.

We also look forward to sharing experiences and best practice, gaining an understanding of the needs of companies in the sector, and continuing to strengthen initiatives that promote the creation of spin-offs, the development of technologies and public-private partnerships. We are convinced that AseBio is the ideal environment for establishing these connections and generating synergies with other partners.

AseBio. What is the biggest challenge facing the biotech sector or your company?

Vicente de Juan. One of the main challenges remains transforming the excellent scientific knowledge generated into innovation with a real impact. Spain has a high-quality biomedical research system, but there is still a need to strengthen the mechanisms that facilitate the transfer of results, collaboration between the scientific and business communities, and access to funding so that technologies can mature and reach the market.
