BIOLAN’s Innovative BIOMILK 7000 achieves International AOAC Certification
BIOMILK 7000 LAC enables lactose measurement in less than one minute at any point in the production process. AOAC certification confirms the reliability of BIOMILK 7000 LAC at the same level as official reference methods
The market for lactose-free and low-lactose products has experienced significant growth in recent years and is expected to continue expanding strongly in the years ahead. This trend is closely linked to increasing concerns regarding gut health, digestive sensitivity and allergens. According to various reports (Fortune Business Insights, 2026), the market could achieve a compound annual growth rate exceeding 8%.
Accurate lactose measurement has become essential within the food industry, both from a food safety perspective and to ensure strict compliance with current regulations. Regulatory authorities currently require residual lactose concentrations to remain below 100 ppm (mg/L) for products to be marketed under a “lactose-free” label. As a result, the industry requires precise and reliable solutions for measuring lactose levels throughout the production chain. In response to this need, new systems capable of delivering rapid analysis directly within production processes are gaining increasing traction.
One of the pioneering companies in this field is the Basque company BIOLAN, which specialises in analysis and diagnostics through advanced biosensor technology for the food and health sectors. The company offers BIOMILK 7000 LAC, a portable system for measuring lactose levels in dairy products that enables laboratory testing to be brought directly to any stage of the production process, delivering objective and accurate results in less than one minute.
This technology has now received AOAC Research Institute Performance Tested Methods (PTM) certification, an accreditation that places BIOLAN’s measurement system at the same level of reliability as current official reference methods. In contrast to these systems, the BIOMILK 7000 LAC method is based on a pre-calibrated biotest measurement device with a very simple operation that provides results almost immediately.
This accreditation complements the Official Method of Analysis (OMA) recognition previously granted by AOAC to another BIOLAN lactose measurement method, BIOMILK 3000 LAC. These international recognitions reinforce the growing importance of biosensor-based technological solutions for monitoring essential parameters in the food industry and represent a significant step forward for the sector’s competitiveness, enabling rapid and reliable in-house control at any point in the production process with full confidence.
BIOLAN, a Basque biotechnology company with nearly 20 years of experience in the market, covers the entire value chain from the development to the manufacturing and commercialisation of its own innovative analytical and diagnostic solutions for the food and health sectors. For more than 10 years, the company has been providing the global dairy industry with methods for monitoring and controlling product quality and safety. Today, this product line is present in more than 30 countries, with some of the world’s leading dairy companies among its customers.
