#NewAseBioMember | "AseBio is a meeting point for companies, researchers and other stakeholders in the biotechnology sector. It provides a space to share experiences, discover new initiatives and establish collaborations"
Meet our new AseBio member Aitenea Biotech. We spoke with Nuria E. Campillo, Co-founder of Aitenea Biotech.
AseBio. What does your company's work bring to the table and what is its strength?
Nuria E. Campillo. At AItenea, we combine artificial intelligence and chemistry to accelerate the discovery and development of new molecules for applications in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, energy and cosmetics. Our main strength lies precisely in this combination, we not only develop computational tools to design molecules, optimes and predict their properties, but we also have expertise in organic and medicinal chemistry, allowing us to bring these designs into the laboratory. As a company that emerged from public research (Spin off from CSIC and EBC of the UAM), our goal is to turn scientific knowledge into practical solutions for industry.
AseBio. What is AseBio for you?
Nuria E. Campillo. AseBio is a meeting point for companies, researchers and other stakeholders in the biotechnology sector. It provides a space to share experiences, discover new initiatives and establish collaborations. It also offers an opportunity to raise awareness of the role that artificial intelligence and chemistry can play in biotechnology innovation.
AseBio. When did you first hear about AseBio?
Nuria E. Campillo. We first became familiar with AseBio through its work supporting and representing the Spanish biotechnology sector. More recently, our participation in BioSpain gave us the opportunity to learn more about its activities and the collaboration opportunities it offers.
AseBio. What do you expect from being part of an association like AseBio?
Nuria E. Campillo. We hope to connect with other companies, better understand the real needs of the sector and identify opportunities for collaboration in R&D projects. We also look forward to learning from the experience of other companies and raising awareness of our capabilities. As a small company, we believe that being part of a network like AseBio can help us grow and take part in initiatives that would be more difficult to pursue on our own.
AseBio. What is the biggest challenge facing the biotech sector or your company?
Nuria E. Campillo. One of the biggest challenges is turning scientific and technological advances into real-world applications. For us, beyond continuing to develop our AI tools, the challenge is to adapt them to the needs of industry and demonstrate their value in real projects. As a small, innovative company, finding ways to grow while maintaining our commitment to research and innovation is also an important challenge.
