BIOSPAIN becomes an annual event, consolidating its leadership as a driving force of the Spanish biotechnology sector

The International Biotechnology Meeting BIOSPAIN is undergoing a transformation, shifting from a biennial to an annual format in order to continue positioning itself as a benchmark in the biotechnology sector at both national and international levels. This year’s edition, to be held from October 7 to 9 in Barcelona and organized by AseBio and Biocat in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council, will announce during its official program the host city for BIOSPAIN 2026. Meanwhile, Barcelona has been confirmed as the venue for the 2027 and 2029 editions.

For BIOSPAIN 2025, under the motto 'Global crossroads, local vibes', around 60 sessions are scheduled, addressing the latest advances in genomics, gene editing (CRISPR), oncology therapies and immunotherapies, as well as synthetic biology. The program will also explore the impact of artificial intelligence on clinical research, biotechnology applied to regenerative agriculture, and the European regulatory context regarding New Genomic Techniques and pharmaceutical legislation.

This edition will also feature the 'Green Innovation Forum,' a dedicated space for companies in agricultural, food, and industrial biotechnology (green biotechnology). Having held its most recent edition in 2024 in Pamplona, the forum is now integrated into BIOSPAIN with the aim of strengthening synergies and increasing its international reach. It will include a full agenda of debates and round tables focusing on key aspects of biotechnology innovation and the green economy, seeking medium- and long-term solutions to challenges such as climate change, industrial transformation, sustainable food, and the development of bioproducts, among others.

The organizers of the 2025 edition expect to match or even exceed the record figures achieved in 2023, which brought together more than 2,200 attendees from nearly 1,000 companies across 34 countries, generating over 5,000 one-to-one meetings. That eleventh edition highlighted the role of the biotechnology sector as a driver of the new health model, positioning it as a key element in achieving strategic autonomy for Spain and Europe in areas such as the economy, health, sustainable food, and the green industrial transition.
