Bioga leads IberoBio, a European project to create and propell the Cross-border Biotechnology Pole
The Cluster Tecnolóxico Empresarial das Ciencias da Vida, who will be the captain of the initiative, presented said initiative in the SCIEB of the Biopolo Sionlla in which 12 other entities Porguguese and Spanish entities participated.
The Cluster Tecnolóxico Empresarial das Ciencas da Vida (Bioga), an entity that represents the ecosystem of the biotechnology sector in Galicia, will lead IberoBio, a project supported by the European Union and the Interreg VI-A POCTEP Program 2021-2027, which will serve more than sixty biotechnology SMEs and will work to create and promote the Iberian Cross-Border Biotechnology Pole through an investment of two million euros until 2025.
IberoBio will have a network of strategic partners including academic institutions, business organisations and research centers. The project is composed of thirteen entities: Bioga, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Consorcio de la Zona Franca de Vigo, Universidade do Minho, Laboratorio Ibérico Internacional de Nanotecnología, Fundación FUNDECYT de Extremadura, Zona Franca de Cádiz, Ayuntamiento de Salamanca, Associação Colab4Food, Sociedad para la Promoción de Iniciativas Empresariales Innovadoras, Instituto Galego de Promoción Económica (Igape), GreenColab-Associação Océano Verde and Associação Portuguesa de Bioindústria.
"IberoBio is an ambitious project that is committed to the consolidation, positioning and internationalisation of the cross-border Iberian biotech sector", highlights the president of Bioga, José Manuel López Vilariño, who points out that Galicia and its biotech sector will lead a project whose geographical scope covers the territories on both sides of the more than 1. 200 kilometers of border between Spain and Portugal, from Galicia and Northern Portugal, to Andalusia and the Algarve, and passing through Castile and Leon, Extremadura, Central Portugal and Alentejo. "We believe in strategic collaboration, innovation and joint growth," said Bioga's manager, Loli Pereiro, at the presentation of the project.
In short, this project is committed to creating and consolidating an innovative ecosystem of support for competitive improvement and strengthening the potential for internationalisation.
