AseBio and Food & Agri Tech Europe (FATE) have signed a collaboration agreement, within the framework of the second edition of FATE’s CEO Side Chats, with the goal of promoting the growth of the foodtech and agritech sectors in Spain and Europe, facilitating collaboration between companies, and strengthening technological innovation in favor of healthier, more sustainable, ethical, and accessible food for all.

This agreement will enable the implementation of various actions that foster the promotion and dynamization of the Food-Agritech sector, generating a more connected ecosystem among startups, industry, technology centers, universities, and entities related to food innovation.

FATE is an association founded in 2023 that represents the interests of the agri-foodtech sector, and its mission and lines of work are fully aligned and complementary with those of AseBio, facilitating the creation of synergies that strengthen innovation and competitiveness in the sector.

Thanks to this agreement, both associations become partner entities, with the objective of generating synergies among companies and organizations from both sides working in the field of agri-food innovation.

Under this collaboration, FATE will join AseBio’s Food Innovation Working Group, while AseBio will participate in FATE’s Regulatory and Legal Working Groups, contributing its expertise in regulation and public policy.

Through AseBio’s Sustainability Committee — made up of the aforementioned Food Innovation Working Group, as well as the Sustainable Agriculture and Industrial Biotechnology groups — initiatives are promoted that allow biotechnology companies to deploy their full potential. Among the main objectives are:

  • Promoting a stable and appropriate regulatory framework that facilitates biotechnology’s contributions to agri-food production, environmental conservation, and the development of industrial biotechnology.
  • Positioning biotechnology in its different areas — agri-food, blue, and industrial — on the public agenda, encouraging support measures for the sector.
  • Highlighting and recognizing biotechnology’s contribution to the circular economy and to building a safer, more sustainable, and higher-quality food system.

The agreement signed today lays the groundwork for joint national and European projects to materialize synergies between both associations and their members, as well as knowledge exchange to strengthen key sector events such as BIOSPAIN, the Green Innovation Forum, or FATE’s annual event.

“With this agreement, AseBio reinforces its commitment to giving visibility to the work of our members and to continue driving the sector forward. Alliances like this allow us to create new synergies that further consolidate the strategic role of biotechnology in the transition toward a more sustainable and competitive economy,” says Ion Arocena, CEO of AseBio.

“Biotechnology is one of the essential disciplines driving the agri-foodtech industry, with clear potential to contribute to the objectives shared by FATE and AseBio. This agreement will allow us to work more closely and in a more coordinated way, bringing value to members, industry, and society,” states Roselyne Chane, President of FATE–Food&Agritech Europe.

With this collaboration, AseBio and FATE aim to consolidate a cooperation framework that promotes innovation, facilitates knowledge exchange, and strengthens European leadership in the Foodtech and Agritech sectors, thus contributing to a more sustainable, efficient, and accessible food system.
