#NuevoSocioAseBio | "AseBio is, above all, a community. A community that brings together companies, researchers, institutions and professionals from the biotechnology sector in Spain"
Meet our new AseBio member, Oncomatryx. We spoke with Pedro Esnaola, Chief Public Affairs Officer.
AseBio. What does your company's work bring to the table and what is its strength?
Pedro Esnaola. Oncomatryx is a biotech company focused on developing antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) that target the tumour microenvironment, with the aim of bringing new treatment options to patients with metastatic solid tumours. Our main strength lies in our distinctive approach of combating solid tumours through the microenvironment, rather than directly targeting the epithelial tumour cell. Oncomatryx has over 15 years of experience in ADC development and a multidisciplinary team with extensive expertise in chemistry, biology, oncology, R&D, clinical development, regulatory affairs and business. This enables us to integrate all the necessary stages to take our candidates from the research phase through to the clinical phase.
AseBio. What is AseBio for you?
Pedro Esnaola. For Oncomatryx, AseBio is, above all, a community. A community that brings together companies, researchers, institutions and professionals from the biotechnology sector in Spain. It provides a forum where we can share with other participants the innovation and technology that drives and motivates us to continue developing drugs for the treatment of metastatic solid tumours.
AseBio. When did you first hear about AseBio?
Pedro Esnaola. We have known AseBio since its inception. We have closely followed its development and role as a driving force behind the biotechnology sector in Spain. Today, as new partners, we are taking a step towards continuing to contribute to the ecosystem by sharing our experience in developing antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) for oncology.
AseBio. What do you expect from being part of an association like AseBio?
Pedro Esnaola. Being a part of AseBio will enable us to share knowledge, identify synergies and stay at the forefront of the innovation and technology that is currently transforming the Spanish biotechnology industry. Joining AseBio is a great opportunity to strengthen our position and visibility nationally and internationally. In short, we aim to collaborate, learn and grow alongside AseBio.
AseBio. What is the biggest challenge facing the biotech sector or your company?
Pedro Esnaola. One of the major challenges that the biotechnology industry faces (Oncomatryx included) is to develop new therapeutic solutions efficiently and in the shortest possible time. In oncology, in particular, there is a very high unmet medical need. Thousands of cancer patients are awaiting treatment. Our aim is therefore to advance the development of our ADCs targeting the tumour microenvironment in a swift and rigorous manner, with the aim of offering new treatment options to patients who need them.
